Re-Balancing

Collaborating performer, Musician and musical Co-composer. I played clarinet, chimes and boardwalk

(Re-)Balancing is an immersive movement performance that guides the audience through the backroads of Renfrew Ravine, one of Vancouver’s only remaining above ground streams. Performers of all ages invite participants to witness movement through the natural and built environments that surround us and to ponder: what does it mean to find balance between these two realms? What is this separation we have constructed between them? How can we facilitate harmony within our human and non-human community members?

High (In)fidelity

Is a set of Sculptural Lantern Speakers which I created for live performance. Each speaker only responds to a narrow band of frequencies resulting in spatialized distortion of the original sound signal. Funded by Canada Council for the Arts.

Lantern Speakers

Eyeball Lantern Speakers with copper tube backpack was created to be able preform with electronics while moving. Photo on left is working in my home studio. The photo on the right is the Consciousness of Stream project with community dancers and myself wearing the backpack, speakers, electronics and carrying my clarinet.

My {Audio Processing} Mailbox

Is a programmable effects pedal I built into an old mail box using the Axoloti Core micro controller. It enables me to make different audio programs for various project and compositions.

Constellations

For the musical side of this work:
I did the recording, music production, playing of the clarinet, and music composition. In collaboration with my sister Clara Rose who played the violin and contributed to the composition as well.

Embodied Clarinet

My University Capstone project:

The piece is the outcome of researching the body’s connection to the clarinet. Exploration and play were used to find a myriad of sounds that can span a range from the visceral to the more traditionally “musical”. Light and shadow illuminate the bodies/actors on stage and their interconnection. The light and its player both become alive and embodied as they explore the world around them, eventually revealing their bodies connected to the sound which is all around them. Through their interaction, we get to discover a bit about all the bodies involved.
